Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who runs the campaign?

State Employees run the campaign. While the law names the Governor as the ultimate administrative authority, the governing of the campaign is handled by a Steering Committee made up of 7 state employees appointed from the three branches of government. Local Agency Review Committees, or LARCs, are local groups of state employees that administer campaigns at the local level.

Q: Who decides which agencies participate in the Campaign?

State Employees decide which agencies participate in the Campaign. Agencies and federations of agencies submit an application to the LARC in each area where they have offices or offer services.

Q: I’m a state employee. Do I have to give?

No one can be forced to give. State law forbids any person from using any unfair or unreasonable pressure or tactics to make any employee participate in the SCC. If you feel pressured to give, contact the SCC office at 334-269-4505.

Q: If I give, can I choose the charity that receives my gift?

Absolutely! Gifts can be shared among several charities. You are encouraged to designate your gift among the charities of your choice on your pledge card.

Q: How much should I give?

How much you should give is a decision only you can make. Four special recognition levels of giving are listed on your pledge card for consideration. Certificates of appreciation will be given to contributors who give at a designated Society level. Payroll deduction allows state employees to give a little every month. By spreading the gift over the entire year, a small monthly gift can result in a large annual donation.

Q: How do I give?

1. Choose an agencies to which you wish to give. You may search our online database here. You may choose from organizations providing services in the local areas listed or organizations providing services or a state-wide or national basis.
2. For each charitable organization, a brief description of services provided by the agency, its phone number, 6-digit agency code and the percent of overhead is given.
3. You are encouraged to designate your gift. Undesignated contributions will be distributed among participating agencies in the same proportion they received designated contributions.
4. Complete your pledge card along with the TOTAL dollar amount you want to go to each agency/federation.
5. Print your HOME address on the pledge card if you want to hear from the agency(ies) to whom you designated your gift ($25 minimum please).
6. If you would like to make your gift in memory or honoring someone, attach the Earmark-Memorial Contribution attachment to your pledge form.
